    Course Objectives:

    1. Prevent / reduce accidents
    2. Manage police and media interactions
    3. Reduce accident-related costs
    4. Manage accident investigations effectively through documentation and evidence collection and interviewing witnesses

    Course Description:

    • Introduction and definitions: Learn the three categories of accidents, three levels of accident investigation, and basic accident definitions.
    • Accident prevention and management: Accident prevention begins with the driver during the first stages of hiring.  Explore procedures for interviewing, screening, and conducting background checks on driver applicants; driver incentive programs, disciplinary policies and procedures; fatigue and hours of service regulations; company training programs; as well as the role of fleet maintenance in accident prevention.
    • Managing the police and media:  Understand the need to develop relationships with law enforcement organizations, as well as the benefits of a good media relations policy.
    • Reading and interpreting police accident reports: All states have an accident report form, but very few if any have the identical reporting procedures. Investigate and understand the coding and notations on accident reports.
    • Data collection at the accident scene:  Develop necessary tools to utilize based on the depth of the investigation required; recording evidence and identifying primary vs. secondary evidence; proper photographic documentation of the scene.
    • Locating and interviewing witnesses: Learn basic questions to ask all witnesses and occupants of involved vehicles and to utilize an accident reporting kit.
    • Speed estimates:  Determine vehicle speed from tire marks, critical speeds of curves, combined speeds, skip and gap skids, drag factors, and test skid procedures.

    Click here to download the registration form. For planning purposes, it is important that you indicate on the Registration Form the number of people that will participate in each meal and activity. No refunds will be given after September 8, 2025.

    NOTE: If a your spouse or companion guest is attending with you, you must pay the guest registration fee in order for her/him to have breakfast, lunch and the group dinners. Two meeting attendees staying in the same room must pay the single registration fee for each person.

    This course is the only required course for the Certified Supervisor of
    Maintenance/Equipment (CSM/E)
    and one of two required courses for
    the Certified Director of Maintenance/Equipment (CDM/E) designation.

    Course Benefits:

    • Introduction to Fleet Management: purpose and fundamentals of fleet maintenance management, the role of the fleet maintenance manager, and the skill sets and personality traits that help a manager succeed.
    • Maintenance and Repair Strategies: the main categories of maintenance, the benefits of planned maintenance, and legal requirements for maintaining vehicles; the three types of planned maintenance; unplanned repairs and failure analysis.
    • Maintenance Technology: Issues to consider when implementing fleet maintenance software in your shop.  Overview of Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) and asset codes.
    • Laws and Regs: regulations shop managers need to know, including key Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, as well as the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Out-of-Service Criteria.
    • Budgeting: developing a maintenance department budget, different categories of expenses, and determining cost-per-mile or cost-per-hour.
    • Human Resources: Hiring effectively, complying with labor laws, and evaluating and coaching for performance improvement.
    • Training:  benefits of training, identifying training needs, implementing effective training programs, evaluating training quality, and tracking employee training progress.
    • Specifications and Purchasing: the process of determining what your fleet needs, then bidding out and purchasing the needed equipment.
    • Warranty: the importance of warrantees and how to make the most of them.
    • Shop Operations: maximizing staff operations, including staff and equipment utilization, productivity and performance management.
    • Shop Audits: the process of auditing your shop operations and practices.
    • Shop Design: important considerations for designing and building a fleet maintenance facility;  shop design best practices; and fuel station planning.

    Course Description: Hazardous Materials Training is a 2-day seminar which centers on regulatory training.  The unique, function-specific format provides greater understanding and better retention.  The seminar helps fulfill the 49 CFR Part 172 Subpart H recurrent training requirements.

    Course Benefits: Through this course, you’ll learn to:

    1. Use the hazmat table and identify hazmat classes;
    2. Mark bulk and non-bulk packaging and packages;
    3. Label and placard and prepare shipping papers;
    4. Properly load and unload vehicles; and
    5. Prepare your drivers for a roadside inspection.

    Who should attend? Anyone involved in hazardous materials preparation and transportation, including:

    • Fleet safety professionals
    • Drivers
    • Dockworkers
    • Billing clerks

    Every employee involved in shipping, transporting or handling hazardous materials should receive training. The training must be updated whenever there is a regulation change affecting an employee’s job tasks.  Hazardous materials training must be repeated at least every 36 months.
