The VTA is excited to announce the 2025 Virginia Truck Driving Championships (TDC), the premier event celebrating the skill and safety of Virginia's professional truck drivers.

This year's competition will be held at Richard Bland College in Petersburg on May 16–17, 2025.​

Friday, May 16:

  • 9:00 a.m. – Registration opens at Richard Bland College

  • 10:00 a.m. – Written tests commence

  • 11:00 a.m. – Pre-trip inspections and field tests begin

  • 6:00 p.m. – BBQ dinner at Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights​

Saturday, May 17:

  • 9:00 a.m. – Field tests resume

  • Afternoon – Awards ceremony following the conclusion of competitions​


Competition Details

Drivers will compete in various classes, demonstrating their knowledge of regulations, vehicle inspection skills, and driving abilities. Awards will be presented to the top performers in each class, including the overall Grand Champion. Additional honors include the highest scoring first-time competitor and the winner of the pre-trip inspection contest.​

How to Participate

Participation is open to drivers employed by VTA-member companies who meet the following criteria:​

  • Accident-free (preventable and non-preventable) from May 16, 2024, to May 17, 2025

  • Full-time truck driver for the past year with the entering employer

  • Resident of Virginia or based at a Virginia terminal

  • Possess the proper CDL endorsement if competing in specific classes​

To register, complete the Driver Entry form and submit it along with the Entry Kit Request form to Dale Bennett at dbennett@vatrucking.org or Patrick Laurence at plaurence@vatrucking.org. 

Please ensure all fees are paid before the close of business on Friday, April 25, 2025.​

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are essential to the success of the Championships. If you're interested in contributing your time as a judge, scorekeeper, or in another capacity, please complete the Judges form by April 25, 2025.​

BBQ Dinner Details

The BBQ dinner will be held at the Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights. One BBQ ticket is included with each driver's registration. Additional tickets are available for $45 each, or $10 for children ages 12 and under. All BBQ orders must be received and paid in full by April 25, 2025.​

Lodging Information

While the VTA has not reserved a block of rooms, the following hotels are within a 15-minute radius of the event:​

  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Petersburg/Dinwiddie

  • Holiday Inn Petersburg North - Fort Lee, Colonial Heights

  • Hilton Garden Inn Richmond South/Southpark, Colonial Heights​

We recommend booking accommodations early due to high demand.​

Support the Championships by becoming a sponsor. Sponsorship levels include Bronze ($250), Silver ($500), Gold ($750), and Platinum ($1,250). Benefits include recognition at the banquet, signage displays, and listings in the event program and on VTA platforms. Sponsorships must be confirmed by April 25, 2025.
