- DC to Launch Enforcement Campaign Against 53-foot Trailers - The DC DOT has announced that it will launch an active enforcement campaign on Oct.. 19, 2009 to enforce its regulations regarding operation of 53-foot trailers in the District. - New VA Reverse Signal (Back-up Alarm) Operation Regulation - The Virginia Department of Labor & Industry (DOLI) and the Virginia Safety and Health Codes Board have adopted new regulations that govern safety requirements for reverse signal (back-up alarm) operations for vehicles, machinery and equipment used in general industry, including trucking, and the construction industry. The new regulations took effect on Sept. 18, 2009 and full enforcement will begin on Oct. 19, 2009. Last month, the VTA sent an e-mail with more details and information about complying with this regulation to its members. - Storm Water Permit Filings for Land Transportation & Warehousing Facilities Due July 1, 2009 - Certain land transportation and warehousing facilities are covered by the Virginia Dept. of Environmental Quality's storm water runoff permit regulations. Owners of covered facilities must file a registration statement to obtain a permit or a "No Exposure" certification with DEQ by July 1, 2009. On Friday, May 29, the VTA sent the membership guidance information on how to comply with this regulation. - Coil Securement Training Required by Alabama June 1! Effective June 1, 2009 any driver picking up or delivering steel, aluminum, or other metal coils in the state of Alabama will be required to be trained and certified in proper load securement of coils. Specifically, Alabama law states:
- 32-9A-2(a) (4)a: No motor carrier may initiate or terminate in Alabama the commercial transport of metal coils, as defined in 49 CFR 393.120, unless the commercial vehicle operator is certified in proper load securement…
- 32-9A-4(d): Any motor carrier violating Section 32-9A-2(a) (4)a shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punished by a fine of not less than five thousand dollars ($5,000) nor more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000) Get Certified!
